Hemann berteriak "he he!" atau "he helfts!"

The Hemann, also Homann, Hoymann, Hoimann or Jochhoimann (Mann meaning man), is a spirit of German folklore that frightens people by yelling, usually unseen and at night. The first part of the name usually imitates its cry. It is known in formerly German-speaking Bohemia, where the Czechs call it Hejkadlo, as well as in Silesia, Westphalia, the Vogtland, the Upper Palatinate, the Fichtel Mountains and near Crailsheim (Baden-Württemberg). The Hemann cries "he he!" or "he helfts!" (hey, help!) and chases people with its yelling without ever quite reaching them. But whoever dares to imitate its cry is leapt upon: the spirit jumps onto their back and forces them to carry it. It is held to be a ghost, especially a Grenzfrevler, someone who in life moved a boundary stone with criminal intent, or a field sprite offered the last sheaf of the harvest. It probably arose from the calls of the owl, eagle owl, hoopoe and nightjar. In the Upper Palatinate the Hoymann or Hoimann haunts the mountain forests; its shout, coarse like a man's voice or like an owl, carries a quarter hour away. It appears as a tall man in hunter's dress with a broad-brimmed hat, or as a giant reaching the clouds, and is held to be a poor soul or the devil himself. It punishes wood theft and the imitation of its cry, and also rides with the Wild Hunt. There are many local forms. In Lower Lusatia the Homann yells every noon at 12 and so serves as a time signal. In Northern Bohemia the Hehmann lives in the cornfield and leaps on the neck of anyone who answers its shout. In Westphalia it is called Ropenkerl, and its cry "hoho!" foretells bad weather. In the Lechrain the Hojemännlein are small green Kobolds who yell "hoje!". In Czech folklore a similar being is called hejkal or hejkadlo, a forest demon that likewise jumps onto the back of anyone who answers its call.
