The Richmond Vampire, locally also called the Hollywood Vampire, is an urban legend from Richmond, Virginia. Residents claim the W. W. Pool mausoleum in Hollywood Cemetery holds the remains of a vampire supposedly driven out of England in the 19th century. The oral legend circulated by the 1960s, perhaps inspired by the tomb's Masonic and ancient Egyptian architecture with double Ws resembling fangs, and became popular among students of the neighbouring Virginia Commonwealth University. Since 2001 the story has been combined with the 1925 collapse of the Church Hill Tunnel: supposedly the digging woke a blood-covered, jagged-toothed creature found crouching over a victim. One explanation says the "creature" was really fireman Benjamin F. Mosby, scalded when the boiler burst, and contemporary records contain none of these details.
