Munaciello, "biarawan kecil", adalah peri dari cerita rakyat lisan Napoli, lelaki pendek dan kekar berjubah panjang bertudung. Menurut banyak kisah ia penjaga saluran air dan sumur bawah tanah kota, sehingga dapat menyusup diam-diam ke rumah-rumah. The Munaciello, 'little monk', is a sprite of the oral folklore of Naples, a short, stocky man in a long hooded robe. Many tales make him keeper of the city's underground aqueducts and wells, so he can slip secretly into houses. He is mischievous, stealing valuables and pestering housewives, but also appears at night to people in dire need and leads them to treasure. His visits must not be told, or misfortune follows. There are several theories of origin. Matilde Serao recorded the story of a deformed child of 1445 whom his mother dressed in a monk's habit; a red hood was a good omen and a black one a bad omen. Another legend makes him a well keeper (pozzaro), and his habits do resemble those of old Naples' water carriers; a third theory sees him as a little demon. The saying 'Forse avrà il Monaciello in casa' is used for sudden fortune. He appears in Eduardo De Filippo's play Questi fantasmi! and the film The Hand of God (2021).
