Naga Rhodes menurut legenda meneror lembah Soudourli di kaki gunung Santo Stefanus pada 1340-an, masa kekuasaan Ordo Hospitaller. Korbannya begitu banyak sehingga Grand Master Hélion de Villeneuve melarang para ksatria melawannya. Menurut Bosio naga itu sebesar kuda, berkepala ular, bertelinga bagal bersisik, dan bergigi tajam. The dragon of Rhodes is said to have terrorised the Soudourli valley at the foot of Mount Saint Stephen in the 1340s, under the Knights Hospitaller. It claimed so many victims that Grand Master Hélion de Villeneuve forbade the knights to fight it. Bosio describes it as the size of a horse, with a serpent's head, scaly mule's ears and sharp teeth. The knight Dieudonné de Gozon defied the ban: he trained with an articulated wooden dragon, returned around 1342 with two mastiffs, killed the dragon and set its head on the walls. A similar legend existed on Kos from 1420, and some scholars think the story stems from a real animal.
