Bicorn and Chichevache are fabulous beasts of medieval and Renaissance European satire. Bicorn, part panther, part cow with a human face and two horns, is fat from devouring kind, devoted husbands; Chichevache, the 'thin cow', starves because it eats only obedient wives. In French folklore they are Bigorne and Chicheface, and the Bigorne there looks like a tiger. Chaucer names Chichevache in the Canterbury Tales, and John Lydgate's poem Bycorne and Chychevache makes them husband and wife. In Poitou-Charentes the Bigorne is also a bogey eating children near wells, and the bicorn appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
