Legenda ini mengilhami puisi Thomas Moore A Dream of Antiquity.
The hercinia is a legendary bird of the Hercynian Forest of ancient Germany. In the 1st century Pliny the Elder wrote that its feathers shine like fire at night, and in the 7th century Isidore of Seville said feathers laid on the ground give light to show the way. It appears in medieval bestiaries. The reports may come from iridescent birds reflecting moonlight, such as the barn owl. The legend inspired Thomas Moore's poem A Dream of Antiquity.
