The Beast of Dean is an animal of English folklore said to live, or once to have lived, in the Forest of Dean, a large ancient woodland between the rivers Severn and Wye in Gloucestershire, England. Despite several early 19th-century attempts to find, capture or kill it, no scientific evidence of it has been found. The tales seem to date from the 18th or early 19th century. In 1802 farmers from the village of Parkend set out to catch and kill it but found nothing; the animal they sought was said to be a boar big enough to fell trees and hedges. Wild boar still live in the Forest of Dean, but many 20th- and 21st-century references come from cryptozoologists. In 2007 the TV series Primeval reimagined it as a gorgonopsid. According to the bg article it is also known as the 'moose-pig'.
