Tuan tanah Sir Hector Mackenzie dari Gairloch kemudian mengajak lima bangsawan Mackenzie memburunya, tetapi gagal; menurut Patricia Monaghan, ia tak pernah terlihat lagi.

The Ghillie Dhu or Gille Dubh is a solitary male fairy of Scottish folklore. He was dark-haired and dressed in leaves and moss, which gave the ghillie suit its name. He features mostly in accounts from the late 18th century, inhabiting a birch wood in the north-west Highlands of Scotland, guarding the forest fiercely from outsiders yet treating children kindly. Ghillie renders the Scottish Gaelic gille, 'lad', and dubh means 'dark'. Katharine Briggs calls him a gentle mountain spirit, shy but able to be 'wild', and small in build. He lived in the birch woods by Loch an Draing in Gairloch. The best-known story tells of Jessie Macrae, a girl lost in the woods whom the Ghillie Dhu comforted and guided home. The landowner Sir Hector Mackenzie of Gairloch later had five Mackenzie gentlemen hunt him, without success; according to Patricia Monaghan he was never seen again.
