Makhluk terkait, Bodach Glas ("Lelaki Tua Kelabu"), dianggap pertanda kematian; dalam novel Waverley karya Walter Scott, Fergus Mac-Ivor melihatnya sebelum ajalnya.
In Gaelic folklore and myth the bodach (plural bodaich; Old Irish botach), whose name means an old man or a coarse rustic, is a trickster or bogeyman figure, set alongside the cailleach, 'hag', in Irish legend. Bodach is the Irish for a tenant, serf or peasant, built from bod, 'tail, penis', and the suffix -ach; in modern Gaelic it just means 'old man', often fondly. In modern Gaelic lore the bodach becomes a kind of bugbear, even identified with the devil. The 16th- or 17th-century tale Eachtra Bhodaigh an Chóta Lachtna equates him with Manannán mac Lir. Scottish folklore has him come down the chimney to carry off naughty children, a warning tale. A related being, the Bodach Glas ('Old Grey Man'), is a death omen; in Walter Scott's Waverley Fergus Mac-Ivor sees one before his death.
