Known too as Blunderboar, Thunderbore, Blunderbus or Blunderbuss, Blunderbore is a giant from Cornish and English folklore who turns up in several tales, above all 'Jack the Giant Killer'. The stories usually place him around Penwith, and Cornish lore has him living at Ludgvan Lese, preying on people travelling north to St Ives. Jack kills him, alongside his brother Rebecks, as his second or third giant in 'Jack the Giant Killer', and the name is often given to the ogre of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. In Joseph Jacobs's version Blunderbore seizes three lords and their ladies, meaning to eat the men and wed the women. He captures the sleeping Jack, but Jack noose-snares Blunderbore and Rebecks with rope and cuts their throats. In the Cornish tale 'Tom the Tinkeard' Blunderbore hedges off the King's Highway between St Ives and Marazion and has abducted at least twenty women.
